Credit where it's due
Bank Statement Converter (bankstatementconverter.com) is one of the best-known tools in this space. It's simple, it has a free tier, it offers an API, and its site says that if a file doesn't convert well, you can email them and they'll fix it. Its pricing page describes converting PDF statements to Excel, CSV and JSON.
If it works for you, that's great. Here's how StatementCheap differs, with their prices as published on their pricing page in October 2026 (re-checked October 29, 2026).
Free tiers
| Bank Statement Converter | StatementCheap | |
|---|---|---|
| Without an account | 1 page every 24 hours | 5 pages every day |
| With a free account | 5 pages every 24 hours | No account needed for the free tier |

Even so, our annual Starter is $7.50 a month for 500 pages. On monthly billing, our Pro plan gives 2,000 pages for $19, while their $30 Starter gives 400.
Other differences
Output formats
Besides Excel and CSV, StatementCheap exports QuickBooks (.qbo Web Connect and 3-column CSV), Xero CSV and OFX/QFX. If your statements end up in accounting software, that saves a conversion step. See PDF to QBO and bank statement to Xero.
A balance check on every conversion
We compare the extracted transactions with the statement's own opening and closing balances. If the math doesn't work, we tell you how far off it is and which rows to check. You know the data is complete before you use it.
One-time pack
Not everyone wants a subscription. Our $6 pack covers 150 pages and never expires.
File handling
Statements are processed in memory and not stored by StatementCheap. Converted rows go back to your browser and aren't kept on our servers. Bank Statement Converter's privacy policy says uploaded documents stay on its servers for 24 hours and are then deleted.
What Bank Statement Converter has that we don't
- An API, if you want to automate conversions from your own software. We don't offer one.
- JSON output.
- A long track record in this market. We're new.
Which one should you pick?
- Pick Bank Statement Converter if you need an API or JSON output, or you already have a workflow built around it.
- Pick StatementCheap if you want more pages for less money, files ready for QuickBooks or Xero, or proof that each conversion adds up to the statement's balances.
- Converting one or two statements? Either free tier may be enough. Ours lets you do 5 pages a day without making an account.
Moving over is easy
There's nothing to migrate. Download your next statement, upload it to StatementCheap and pick the format you need. If you work in QuickBooks, the .qbo file imports through Upload from file in QuickBooks Online or Web Connect in Desktop. If you work in spreadsheets, the Excel file has the same transactions plus a summary sheet with the reconciliation result. Our guide to converting a bank statement PDF to Excel covers the alternatives too.
Try both
Both tools have free tiers, so the easiest test is to convert the same statement in each and compare. Start with the bank statement to Excel converter, and see the pricing page for every plan.
Works with statements from any bank, including Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Capital One, Barclays and HSBC.
