How to download your Capital One statement as a PDF
On the Capital One website, sign in, click the account and choose "view statements". In the Capital One app, tap the account, scroll to the bottom and tap "statements". Capital One's help for checking and savings says you need to be enrolled in paperless statements to see them online.
Can Capital One export Excel or CSV directly?
Capital One's online banking terms list the ability to download account transactions to your computer, but in our check its public help pages don't name the file formats for personal accounts. For Capital One business credit cards, Capital One says you can download purchase records in formats including Quicken, QuickBooks and Excel, or connect the card to QuickBooks directly. For checking and savings, the website's past transactions list covers two years of activity, and Capital One's help says older activity is in your statements, which cover seven years. For credit cards, Capital One's paperless terms only promise online statements for 18 months or more while you're enrolled, and advise saving a copy when you first review each one.
What a Capital One statement looks like
Capital One's example credit card statement shows the billing cycle and its number of days at the top. The "Account Summary" runs from Previous Balance through Payments, Other Credits, Transactions, Cash Advances, Fees Charged and Interest Charged to New Balance. In the "Transactions" section, payments and purchases are listed separately as "Payments, Credits and Adjustments" and "Transactions", each prefixed with the card number, with Trans Date, Post Date, Description and Amount columns. Dates show month and day only, payments carry a minus sign, and there is no running balance column. "Fees" and "Interest Charged" follow, then "Totals Year-to-Date" and the "Interest Charge Calculation".
Tips for converting Capital One statements
Capital One keeps up to 7 years of statements online for active bank accounts. For Capital One credit cards, download the monthly statement PDF rather than an activity export, because the statement carries the previous and new balances that the converter checks against.
