How to download your HSBC UK statement as a PDF
In the HSBC UK app, select the account, tap "View statements" and choose the month. In online banking, open the quick links menu, choose "Statements", then pick the statement type, year and month.
Can HSBC UK export Excel or CSV directly?
HSBC's help says digital statements download as PDFs, and that other formats, such as Excel (xls) or csv, come from the transactions list instead. Choose the account, select "Search and filter", set the date range, amount or keyword and select "Search". Then scroll to the bottom of the list, click "Download", choose the format and select "Continue". Personal current accounts also have a midata file: select the account, then "Manage" and "midata download" under "Documents". It covers the 12 months ending 30 days ago, in a fixed format meant for comparison sites, and HSBC says it is designed to be downloaded on a PC or Mac.
What a HSBC UK statement looks like
HSBC's guide to its current account statement says the top of the page shows your name and address, the statement period and the account name. An account summary in the top right lists the IBAN and BIC, "Opening balance", "Payments in", "Payments out", "Closing balance" and "Overdraft limit", which are the figures the balance check works from. Every sheet is numbered, so a multi-page statement stays in order. Common codes include CR (credit), DR (debit), DD, SO, TRF, CHQ, BACS and ATM. Credit card statements show the statement date, an account summary with the credit limit, credits, debits and opening and closing balances, then the transactions, with interest in a separate summary section.
Tips for converting HSBC UK statements
HSBC UK keeps up to 6 years of statements online. The xls or csv download under "Search and filter" covers transactions only, so use the PDF statement when you need the opening and closing balances for a full check.
