How to download your NatWest statement as a PDF

In NatWest Online Banking, go to "Statements & transactions" and choose "Statements", select the account and year, then click the statement period to download a PDF. In the NatWest app, open the account, tap the three-dot icon, choose "statements", open the one you need and use the export button at the top right.

Can NatWest export Excel or CSV directly?

In Online Banking, select "Statements & transactions", then "View transactions" in the "Your transactions" section. Choose the account, narrow the search and press "View transactions". NatWest's help says you can then export the results to Excel or select "Download PDF". Searches reach back 7 years if the account was open that long, while the app's calendar search covers up to 12 months. NatWest no longer offers midata downloads. A NatWest Business help page also lists OFX files for Microsoft Money, Quicken 2001 onwards and Sage Line 50, and CSV for Excel. The export is a transaction list, so use the statement PDF when you need the statement itself, for example as proof of address or income.

What a NatWest statement looks like

NatWest's list of statement abbreviations explains the transaction codes. D/D is a Direct Debit, S/O a standing order, POS a debit card payment, BAC an automated credit, BGC a bank giro credit, DPC a payment or transfer made in online banking, OTR an online banking transaction, C/L a Cashline (cash machine) withdrawal, CHP a CHAPS payment and INT interest. DR means the account is overdrawn or the line is a debit item. Charges now show as "Charge", where older statements said CHG. NatWest says a historic statement comes in the same format as a regular monthly statement, on an A5 sheet.

Tips for converting NatWest statements

NatWest's help says Online Banking holds up to 7 years of statements, so use it for older months or when a statement isn't in the app. For a closed account, NatWest takes requests in branch or in writing for up to 5 years after closing; the transaction history list is free, but copy statements are charged.

What you get

  • Excel with real dates and numbers you can sort, filter and total, plus a summary sheet.
  • QuickBooks: a .qbo Web Connect file or the 3-column CSV for bank uploads. See PDF to QBO.
  • Xero CSV, OFX/QFX for Quicken and other tools, or plain CSV.
  • A reconciliation check: opening balance + money in − money out = closing balance.

Converting a lot of statements every month? Plans start at $9/month for 500 pages.

FAQ

Can I get NatWest statements older than 7 years?
Not from Online Banking, which goes back 7 years. For older statements, NatWest's help says to ask Cora, NatWest's AI assistant, or contact your NatWest service centre.
What's the difference between a NatWest transaction history list and a copy statement?
For a closed account, NatWest's transaction history list is free and shows both cleared and uncleared transactions, such as cheques. A copy statement only shows cleared transactions. NatWest posts the list within 5 working days of you passing its identity checks, and you can ask for large print, braille or audio.
Can I download a single NatWest transaction as a PDF?
Yes, in the NatWest app. Open the account, select the transaction and choose "Create PDF", then pick how to save or send it. For a whole statement period, download the statement PDF from Online Banking instead.
Can I convert NatWest statements to Excel?
Yes. Upload the PDF statement from NatWest and download an Excel, CSV, QBO, Xero or OFX file. The first 5 pages every day are free.
Does it work with NatWest credit card and business statements?
Yes. Checking, savings, business and credit card statements all work. The AI reads the layout, so it doesn't depend on a template.
How do I know the conversion is right?
Each result is checked against the statement: opening balance plus money in minus money out must equal the closing balance, and running balances are checked row by row.
Are my statements stored?
No. Files are processed in memory and the rows go straight back to your browser. We keep only metadata like the page count for billing.
