The short version
DocuClipper does a lot more than convert statements: categorization, direct integrations, team features and other document types. StatementCheap does one thing: it converts bank and credit card statements and checks each one against the statement's balances. If that's all you need, you probably don't need to pay for the rest.

What DocuClipper does well
- Automatic categorization of transactions, included in every plan they list.
- Direct integrations with QuickBooks Online and Xero, plus exports to QBO, IIF, Excel, CSV, OFX, QFX and QIF.
- More document types, including invoices, receipts, checks and brokerage statements.
- Team features: unlimited users, team management and audit logs on higher plans, and API access.
- Analysis tools such as cash flow and fraud detection on their Business plan.
- A reconciliation check. DocuClipper says it compares extracted totals with the statement's opening and closing balances and flags discrepancies before export.
- Security paperwork. DocuClipper states it is SOC 2 Type II certified, which some firms require.
If you need any of those, DocuClipper may be worth the price.
What StatementCheap does differently
- Price. Per page, our plans cost a small fraction of DocuClipper's published annual prices.
- Row-level balance checks. Like DocuClipper, we check that the opening balance plus transactions equals the closing balance. Where the statement prints running balances, we also highlight the exact rows where they stop adding up.
- No sign-up to start. 5 pages a day free without an account.
- Pages that never expire. The $6 pack suits seasonal or one-off work.
- No stored files. Statements are processed in memory and not kept on our servers. DocuClipper's security page says paid accounts keep their data while subscribed and it's deleted 90 days after cancelling.
What we don't have
To be fair about the trade-off: no categorization, no direct QuickBooks or Xero connection, no API, no team seats and no invoice or receipt processing. You download a file and import it yourself. For most statement work that takes a minute. For a large team that wants everything automated end to end, a platform like DocuClipper may suit better.
How switching works
There's no data to move and no integration to set up. Download the next statement as a PDF, upload it to StatementCheap and pick a format. For QuickBooks, import the .qbo file through Upload from file in QuickBooks Online or Web Connect in Desktop. For Xero, use Import a Statement on the bank account. Set up bank rules in your accounting software to take over the categorization DocuClipper was doing. Step-by-step instructions are on our PDF to QBO and Xero pages.
Who should switch
- Solo bookkeepers and small firms paying for features they don't use
- Tax preparers with seasonal spikes
- Anyone converting statements now and then, who doesn't need a subscription at all
